Dallas, TX, (January 23, 2017) TBM Long Term Recovery is pleased to announce it has received a $125,000 grant from the Greater Houston Storm Relief Fund and the Greater Houston Community Foundation. These funds will assist with home repairs for homes affected by flooding in 2016 in the Greater Houston area.

During April of 2016 torrential rains fell upon Houston and surrounding areas in what is now being called the “Tax Day Floods.”  Thousands of single-family homes were hit with flooding.  Texas Baptist Men Long Term Recovery is responding to the needs of Harris (Houston), Brazoria, Warton, Waller and Fort Bend counties.  TBM Long Term Recovery seeks to mobilize volunteers to repair approximately 30 damaged homes in these areas.

Terry Henderson, State Director of Texas Baptist Men Disaster Relief and Recovery stated “We are excited to have this opportunity to assist several families who would not otherwise be receiving assistance.  Long Term Recovery is a new ministry for TBM, being granted these funds will help us with a successful beginning.”

TBM Long Term Recovery seeks to serve individuals and families who are uninsured, disabled and/or elderly.  We work with disaster survivors throughout the long term restoration process by partnering with local churches, associations, humanitarian organizations and other recovery teams, to mobilize volunteers, gather and transport donated items, provide prayer and spiritual support and raise awareness of specific needs.

Volunteer opportunities are for men, women and youth involved in Church groups, Baptist Student Missions groups as well as Yellow Cap trained individuals.   Yellow Cap training is not required for long term recovery work.  Volunteers (male and female) must be at least age 12.  TBM Long Term Recovery seeks to ensure a meaningful and productive experience for volunteers.
