Super Week of Caring event a huge success

Author: Jessica Fletcher/Friday, February 10, 2017/Categories: DR News

Texas Baptist Men Long Term Recovery wrapped up their "Super Week of Caring" event in Houston the week before the Super Bowl.  The volunteers who participated worked on five different homes, affected by flooding, in the areas of Harris and Fort Bend Counties.  Just over 60 volunteers participated in assisting these five families with home repairs.  We would like to especially thank Construction Coordinators Marvin Killingsworth, David Bridges and volunteers like Raymond Wilson and Elmo Johnson who made themselves available durning the week to provide their construction expertise.   A special thanks also goes to Wylie Baptist Church of Abilene who did an extreme make-over of the garage and kitchen of one Acres Homes residence in Harris County in only 3 days.  Deer Park First Baptist Church, mobilized two teams during the week on two different days that contributed to much of the work being accomplished.  Local groups from Church In The Center and First Baptist Hempstead also provided volunteers who helped make the Super Week of Caring a success.

TBM Long Term Recovery appreciates the Mission Centers of Houston for making their facilities available for housing out-of-town volunteers.  We also want to recognize The Church at Bethel's Family  for hosting a Super Bowl tailgate outreach.  Pastor Walter August and Deacon Clark Booker accepted the request and the tailgate was a wonderful time of fun and fellowship.  Twenty TBM Yellow Cap volunteers gave their time with the Southeast Texas Feeding Unit (Alvin) to cook hamburgers and fajitas for the Super Bowl crowd.  Thanks for a job well done.

More work needs to be done and your help is still needed.  TBM Long Term Recovery will be mobilizing volunteers to continue the momentum of helping families in Houston to recover from recent flooding.
