El Paso Congressman Beto O'Rourke and San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg visited the Austin Baptist Association Disaster Relief Team's shower/laundry unit currently deployed to a survivors' shelter in San Antonio today.
Austinite Ed Eberle, a trained volunteer with the Texas Baptist Men's Disaster Relief ministry, greeted the Congressman and Mayor and explained the operation of the shower/laundry unit during their brief visit.
The Austin based unit has been operational as a shower and laundry unit since 2006 following multiple deployments as a laundry unit only during response to Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
Both the Congressman and the Mayor expressed how grateful they were to have the unit in San Antonio supporting the folks who evacuated the Texas Coast in the face of Hurricane Harvey.
The shower/laundry unit will remain at the San Antonio shelter until it is closed; and then will likely deploy to another location affected by the hurricane.
