Medical Disaster Relief Ministry
Baptist Medical and Dental Fellowship / Baptist Nursing Fellowship partnering with Texas Baptist Men
Vision: To introduce people to Jesus Christ and partner with local churches, missionaries, and church planters to disciple all believers as we deliver Christ’s healing love to the world in time of disaster.
In the aftermath of the Tsunami, Katrina and Rita, BMDF/BNF together with Texas Baptist Men, Baptist General Convention of Texas and Baylor Medical System joined to develop a more structured medical response to help meet the needs of people affected by disasters at both a national and international level.
A group of physicians, nurses, key leadership from Baylor, BGCT and BMDF/BNF met in November 2005 to assess needs and designed a plan to bring more organization and structure to Baptist medical response efforts. Critical success factors were identified to target evaluation and solutions to issues such as recruitment and training of volunteers, legal issues such as licensure and malpractice coverage, logistical support to acquire and deploy predefined medications and supplies and leadership and deployment strategies. The goal was to prepare medical teams to respond to national disasters by June 2006.
A structure is in place to deploy national and international teams with partners. Volunteer professionals are needed as well as support team members who can assist in administrative details. Physicians, dentists, APNs, PAs, registered nurses, pharmacists, counselors, EMS and support team members are welcome.
